The Ministry of Education reports that from 2018, high school students will be able to choose subjects for study at school, focusing on their future profession.
Oleg Yeresko, director of the department of general secondary and preschool education, says: “We plan that by 2018, the 10th and 11th grades will become specialized, and children will be able to choose subjects that will help them in their future profession.”
It is planned that 18 hours a week, schoolchildren will study general education subjects and another 20 hours - subjects of choice.
These 20 subjects will include special courses, selectively required subjects and additional hours.

For example, if a student chooses mathematics as a core subject, he will not attend it as a compulsory subject. Hours in mathematics will increase and will be taught to the group in depth.
Regarding special courses, the student will be able to choose only one profpredmet, the rest of the load - special items. Five more hours are additional hours which schools will offer.
In addition, students will be able to choose from four selectively-required subjects two, one of which will be held in the 10th grade, and the other - in the 11th grade.
Gifted students will be given the opportunity to choose several profiles at once.
