Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that Lebogang Maboe has completed a sensational transfer from Maritzburg United to Pretoria. Maboe is one of the brightest stars on the South African football scene and was one of Maritzburg’s stand out players.
Maboe impressed Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane who is believed to have been the driving force behind the signing of the 23-year-old.
Maboe won the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament and the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player awards last season after yet another deeply impressive season.
Briefly.co.zagathered that Maboe is the son of former Orlando Pirates striker Sidwell Maboe. He was believed to have been on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs before being snapped up by Sundowns.
Maritzburg United had earlier in the transfer season placed a value of around R8 million on Maboe. That price was believed to be more of an attempt to keep the player at the club than it was an actual valuation.
Kickoff.co.za reported that regardless of the price (no details of the deal have been made available) Mosimane has gotten his wish and now has one of the brightest stars in South Africa in his squad.
Maboe said the move to Sundowns was like a dream come true and added he could not wait to take to the field with his new teammates and in his new team kit.
The youngster will undoubtedly have to work harder than he has ever had to work to earn a place in the starting side of the defending PSL champions. This can only be a good thing as he pushes his own abilities to the extreme and challenges himself to become the best player he could be.
Maboe is likely to square off against Sibusiso Vilakazi for a starting position.
