Abortive means- drugs used forabortion.
The most effective abortifacient drugs are progagpandins (PG): PGRaa (syn. Dinoprost, enzaprost) and PGEa (syn. Prostenon, dinoprostone). Stimulation of the contractile function of the uterus under the action of PG (unlike oxytocin) occurs at different periods of pregnancy. Their action is based on the ability to cause resorption of a functioning corpus luteum and the resulting decrease in the level of progesterone in the blood; manifests itself regardless of the degree of cervical dilatation.
PGs are used predominantly in the late stages of pregnancy (weeks 13-25). Up to 15 weeks extraamnal administration of drugs is recommended, after 15 weeks. - Intraamnial. Sterile 10-20% glucose solutions or 10% sodium chloride solution (intra-amnally) and ethacridine lactate solution (syn. Rivanol) at a dilution of 1: 5000 (extraamnally) are used as an abortive means in late pregnancy. abortifacient drugs prescribed for medical reasons. There are contraindications to the use of abortifacient drugs.
